This first quarter, we focused on Chemistry. Chemistry is the study of the structure of matter. I have learned that matter is the building blocks of our universe. I came to 8th grade not sure on what atoms were or how they're structured. Now, I do know that atoms are the tiny particles that make up all matter. Everything you touch, feel, and see is made up of atoms. They are the building blocks of matter. I have even learned about the periodic table including what atomic number, atomic mass, elements, isotopes, and halogens.I can classify the location of an element by its atomic number. I am proud of myself for learning as much as I did. I have also learned about chemical and physical changes. That is the most recent topic. The difference between them is that physical change alters the form or appearance of the material but doesn't convert it into a new substance. For an example, boiling water is a physical change because as the water because water vapor, it still has the same molecular structure as liquid water. Chemical change forms one or more new substance out of the material which cannot be reversed. The new substance are made of the sane elements but with difference combinations. We have done an activity in class to find things outside that can be chemical or physical change. One physical change that I saw is a wet paper cup. One chemical change that I saw was paint chipping off a small ledge.
